Tom Burr
Born in New Haven, Conneticut in 1963 Tom Burr is a famous conceptual & installation artist and scultpror who studied at the School of Visual Arts, New York.
Using minimal forms and domestic objects, Tom Burr’s sculptures recreate private architectures as public stages. Influenced by Minimalism and post-Minimalism, Burr mixes together influences from homosexual culture, music, pop iconography, cinema, archietecture and literature. In doing so, Burr is interested in exploring notions of public space, physical space and how it constructs sexual identity, gender politics and sociology.
Creating spaces like an interior decorator, Burr has focused on iconic figures like Truman Capote, Frank O'Hara, Jim Morrison and Chick Austin.
Burr has showed prominently in New York at The Sculpture Center and the Swiss Institute New York, and he continues to exhibit widely across Europe
