Hayward Gallery The Hayward Gallery is part of a large complex of art and entertainment venues on the South bank of the River Thames, London and is located in the Southbank Centre. From 1968 to 1986 the gallery was managed by the Arts Council of Great Britain, but management then passed to Southbank Centre. Southbank Centre consists of the Royal Festival Hall, the Hayward Gallery, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and the Saison Poetry Library. They also manage the Arts Council Collection and organises the National Touring Exhibition programme in venues throughout the UK. In 2008, The Hayward Gallery celebrated its 40th year anniversary. The Hayward receives a revenue grant from the Arts Council England, as well as some support from various donors and sponsors. The Hayward also charges admission fees which contributes to its operating income. The Hayward is managed by a Board and executive staff. The Hayward's exhibition policy embraces visual art from all periods, and past shows have included the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Edvard Munch and the French Impressionists. Recently the programme has tended to concentrate on surveys of contemporary art, such as those of works by Dan Flavin, Ernesto Neto and Antony Gormley. Most exhibitions charge an admission fee however the Hayward Gallery Project Space is free to the public and open all year round.
