The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale was established in September 1968, and opened its doors just steps away from the sandy shores of what's known as the Gold Coast of Florida.
Located in the heart of a city known as the "Venice of America", due to its many waterways, The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale first started with a small number of students interested in only one of three fields of study - Commercial Art, Interior Design and Fashion Illustration.
Through the years, the curriculum has been refined to include a wide spectrum of visual, applied arts, culinary arts or other business-related fields to service multimedia and technology fields.
The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale has received numerous awards including the Chef's Palette restaurant 2005 American Culinary Federation's Achievement of Excellence Award and the coveted 2001 Career College of the Year Distinguished Performance Award from the National Alliance of Business.
In 2004 the Art Instutite was named "College of the Year" by the Florida Association of Postsecondary Schools and Colleges.
The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale also includes the Mark K. Wheeler Gallery (named after the founder of The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale) which hosts exhibits for the students and public to view.
