Originally founded in the city of Oswego in 1861, the State University of New York at Oswego moved to its current location on the shore of Lake Ontario in 1913.
Oswego is now comprised of four schools: the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; the School of Business; the School of Education; and the new School of Communications, Media and the Arts, launched in 2008. The art department earned accreditation from National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The music department is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music Curriculum.The theatre department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre. The School of Communication, Media & the Arts combines the strengths of programs in art, music and theater with the highly diverse department of communication studies.
