
Founded in 1883, The University of North Dakota is located in Grand Forks, a college town of 50,000 on the Red River of the North separating North Dakota and Minnesota.
The University of North Dakota includes ten academic divisions, including the College of Arts and Sciences which is the largest and oldest of nine colleges at the University.
The College of Arts and Sciences include the Department of Art & Design, the Department of Music and the Department of Theatre.
The Edmund Hughes Fine Arts Center houses the Department of Art & Design and the Department of Music and provides more than 35,000 square feet for specialized studios for work in visual arts media.
The Department of Art is the largest art & design department within the upper plains region outside Minneapolis and is the only art and design department within the geographical area of North Dakota and South Central Canada offering the Master of Fine Arts in studio art.
The major facility of Theatre Arts is the Burtness Theatre. Included in this building is a 365-seat proscenium theatre, a flexible-seating laboratory theatre, and scenic and costume shops.
The Department of Music offers degree programs including a Masters of Music, Bachelor of Arts in Music Therapy and a Ph.D in Music Edcuation. The University of North Dakota is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
