Hunter Valley Art at the Branxton Inn Arthouse is an alternative to formal training or course work. The school is ideal for those who are beginners or those who are wanting to refreshen or develop their skills without the commitment to a formal course program.
Music, movement and fun are central to Steve's teaching, producing a rewarding art experience for artists and non-artists alike. Stephen's unique 'non-traditional' teaching methods are inclusive, encouraging and supportive, enabling everyone from beginners to experienced artists to engage in art making.

The Teacher
Stephen James studied in Sydney at the University of New South Wales' College of Fine Arts, completing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1992 and a Master of Art in 1994. Stephen James' influences lie within German and Australian Expressionism. His paintings explore mythical themes in contemporary contexts.

His works have been described as tense, mythological compositions executed in jewel-like colours that evoke Roualt, Beckman and certain Melbourne romantic painters. (Art Beat by Anna Johnson, Sydney Morning Herald)

Artist, teacher and co-author of visual arts text, 'A.R.T: art, research, theory', Craig Malyon, is enthusiastic about Stephen's work "There is something in his painting technique, a lustre that draws you inside the canvas. It's in the glaze and the light, you are not stopped at the surface."

Average fee per group class is $27 which includes supper/morning tea and art materials.
Hunter Valley Art also runs workshops for hen's parties, corporate functions and coporate team building. Private classes and mentoring are also available.
